Containerships has completed its first LNG bunkering on the Port of Rotterdam

Containerships successfully carried out SIMOPS bunkering on its LNG-powered CONTAINERSHIPS NORD vessel in the Port of Rotterdam.

A+A-

CMA CGM Group subsidiary Containerships has performed its first LNG bunkering simultaneously with loading and unloading operations.

The operation was conducted on Containerships Nord in the Port of Rotterdam. The vessel received approximately 200 tons of LNG from bunker supplier Shell to become the first container carrier to perform such an operation in Europe using ship-to-ship bunkering.

The company is now planning to carry out the ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation on other vessels, including Containerships Polar, sister ship of Nord.

LNG-powered ships can provide up to 25% fewer CO2 emissions, cut sulphur emissions and fine particles emissions by 99%, and reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 85%.

Thanks to SIMOPS, the ship’s stay in the port can be reduced significantly and operational delays avoided. Therefore, transit times can be reduced, offering CMA CGM Group customers a highly reliable and fast connection between Northern Europe and the Baltics.
